Christmas 2012

Despite having a new baby in the house we had a lot of fun preparing for Christmas this year! Last year we were so distraught over losing Frank that we couldn't get into the spirit. This year I was determined to make it better and I think we succeeded.

One of the things we did was take the kids out to see a local Christmas lights display that is timed to music. We ate an early dinner, put them in their PJs and loaded them into the car with their blankies. It was a great show and totally our speed with all these small kids!

Later that same week we decorated the Christmas tree. It was a perfectly shaped one and Ben helped me make hot cocoa and then refused to drink it. The kids smashed some ornaments and made me realize it was a bad idea to let two-year-olds decorate. Maybe next year?
Sam being the only kid around for so long, it was finally someone else's turn to put the star on the top of the tree, and we let Elizabeth have that privilege this year! Last thing was hanging stockings and each of the kids got to hang their own, with Sam hanging Maggie's for her.

On Christmas Eve we did a few more fun activities. We let the kids decorate Christmas cookies for Santa and then after dark we let them "feed the reindeer." Sprinkling oatmeal and glitter all over the yard helps attract them to your house. :)

Christmas morning was the usual short-lived chaos and then later the cousins came up to play!

The girls got beautiful knit hats from Aunt Teresa!

Maggie's first Christmas. :)

What a wonderful blog! So glad Maggie is here and is such a pretty baby. Isn't she early according to your due date? She's so filled out and healthy I'm thinking she's right on time, her date is wrong. I hope you didn't overdo with all the activity but it sounds like lots of fun. I hope you're doing fine and I'll probably get birth details--ht, wt, etc.--later, maybe from your mom. Did she get there before Maggie? I always love to see pictures of your lovely family. And lovely you, too. God bless you all. Love, Mrs. A.
