Breakthrough!

So, Brian and I have been trying to pass our Christian faith onto our son. Teaching him to pray, reading him Bible stories, and talking about God and Jesus when the opportunity arises.
So far, he often fights us on praying at dinner. And though sometimes he asks for his Bible stories, he just as often refuses them. I take this stuff personally and find it discouraging, so I was ecstatic on Wednesday.
We were driving home from preschool (which is a Christian preschool, so he learns about Jesus there and even goes to chapel once a week) and he started talking up a storm and I didn't recognize a single word he was saying. Finally I heard Christmas and suddenly realized he was saying "Baby Jesus." Hearing my son say Jesus' name for the first time was heart-stopping. He knows about Jesus! I was so thrilled. Turns out he was talking about "Away in a Manger," which he's being taught to sing for a performance next week. Later that day when I asked if he wanted to pick a book to read, he said "My Bible!" and ran all the way upstairs to get it. I guess our efforts are working!
Here he is reading his Bible.
He saw me once lick my finger to turn a page, so now he does it on occasion. LOL

Last week we tried doing a craft. I'm so not crafty. I found this modeling clay at the craft store and thought I'd try it out. I couldn't even think in 3D to do it. We made a "dog" and the first thing I did was lie it down on the table instead of make it stand up. Then we colored on it with markers. It was so creepy looking that I couldn't stop laughing. So I grabbed the camera and took some pictures. See, I'm getting better!

Just a warning that this can backfire! Elijah gets snappy if we forget to pray at dinner. He did it in front of some friends when we where just eating real quick. I was proud but a little embarrased too. Hope his enthusiasm continues! Love you!
