Bible Study

My Bible study group started up today at church. I chose to take the class studying Dr. Dobson's parenting. Before we even got started I thought I wouldn't stick with it - I'm kind of burnt out on parenting books and classes and really just want to do something for me. In fact, Bible study is one of the things I do just for me, to take care of me. I didn't want to spend it thinking about my day job!
However, after our first class today I bought the book and am diving in. We actually never got to the material at all, it was simply an introduction to the members and their parenting issues. First of all, it was GREAT being in a room full of Christian mothers. We all adore our children, see them for the blessing they are, and want to raise them up to love Christ.
The class will mostly focus on discipline, apparently, which is such a big part of parenting. But I hope this class teaches me how to shape Sam's will, build a long-lasting and deep relationship with him, and more importantly, show him Christ's love through the way I love him. To teach him to obey me is to teach him to obey God.
Parenting is SO hard and most of us are wholly untrained for it. Then by the time we figure it out, they're moving out and our chance is gone. I want to cherish this time with Sam, raise him up in the way he should go, and hopefully make completely different mistakes with his sibling. =)
So pray for this class and myself as I focus on getting a few awards (mostly self-pats on the back) in parenting!
