Now generally we would never consider taking a two-year-old to a movie, but the painters were painting the house and it was way too hazardous to keep Sam away from it all, not to mention that staying upstairs was wearing thin. It was too hot for the parks (and we still haven't found one near the house). So Brian checked the movie times and WALL-E was playing at 3. We figured if he went mental it wouldn't bother too many people. Oddly enough, it was pretty crowded and many of the showings were already sold out.
I kept trying to explan to Sam what it was going to be like, but I couldn't come up with anything! There's just no describing the movie-going experience to a two-year-old. We told him he was going to have to sit still and stay quiet.
When we walked into the theater and starting climbing the ramp, his face showed caution. Then the big screen came into view and he said "Whoah." He immediately started walking towards the first row and we had to turn him around to see the rest of the theater and we climbed the stairs to the second to last row.
He acted totally cool after that, not impressed at all with this giant TV screen or all the noise. As long as he was eating popcorn or candy, he sat in his seat and watched the screen. Occasionally he stood up and ran from Brian's drink to mine for sips from the straw. We left the theater about an hour into the movie for a diaper change. That was a first for Mommy, too!
The movie itself was computer animated and cute. Makes a real statement about taking care of ourselves and our planet lest we end up fat and forced to live in space.

During an emotionally tense and quiet moment, Sam followed in his Uncle Tony's footsteps by being the lone voice in the theater yelling, "Oh no! Oh no!"
He said he liked the movie afterwards. We were really impressed with how well he did. Too bad it was so expensive it's like planning a vacation!

Ah, yes, the family movie tradition--what bliss! Glad to see he enjoyed it. Glad to know there are few movies you can take him to anymore so it shouldn't become too big a financial disaster. Wish I could have been there!
Love, Mom
