It's getting better all the time ...

Well, I think the cloud is lifted over this house. Apparently I needed a kick in the pants to make me appreciate what I have. I love the way God works, because he loves me and knows what I need.
We had a contractor out here yesterday morning, hired by our insurance company, and he's going to make it all better. =) We really like our insurance company and this contractor, former military, has our confidence as well. All they do is disaster repairs, so they're experienced. Unfortunately, it's going to take a lot longer than I hoped for. But I'm also going to get my kitchen and dining room painted for free, which I was going to do later on down the road, anyway. Sweet! =)
I've never had contractors working for weeks in my house before. I hope we find a way for them to work and us to live together for weeks in it. I had no idea how bad water damage could be!

Last night I went to my first steering committee meeting for the squadron. I was not prepared to say the least. I took on the secretary's job, having no idea what I was doing. But most of all, I'm SOOOO out of practice being an officer's wife. I'm so used to being the blue-jean-wearing, sitting-in-the-back-row-rolling-my-eyes-at-the-command-staff warrant officer's wife. Last night I caught myself rolling my eyes as a major spoke, only to remember he was sitting BEHIND me and everyone, including his wife, just saw me roll my eyes. Oops. (In my defense, he was saying during a training exercise they are going to "practice" giving incident notifications to wives. GREAT idea.)
However, the squadron commander's wife is the kind of commander's wife I want to be one day. She hates the bureaucracy as much as I do and wants things done as easily as possible. She focuses her ideas and goals on how they will benefit the soldiers and their families, not how great it will make her look to her peers or higher-ups. And she was wearing blue jeans and flip flops. Woohoo!

One thing I'm going to have to get used to is being back at a post where deployment, war, death and injury are an every day occurrence. I lost count of how many times "casualty notice" was said last night. I wonder if everyone else's stomach flips every time they hear those words. I don't ever get used to it. I can't wait for this part of my life to be over!

What's an incident notice?

Anything short of a casualty notice. Like when Brian got shot and he called me. That was an "incident notice." Nice, huh?

Yo! What's wrong with us rolling our eyes warrant wives?? Ha ha.

I'm glad the house will get right and you feel better about it!

PTL, Kathie. Now you can at least see the light at the end of the tunnel. And I'm glad you're feeling better. Looking forward to "after" pics when the job is done. Mrs. A.
