The heatwave has been for sure hitting us here. It's been in the high 90s and low 100s. At 8:30 this morning it was already 80 degrees outside. It's supposed to be about 100 today and 103 the next two days.
There's a guy underneath our house right now (can you imagine in this heat!) fixing our ductwork. Even with so much damage to it, we've been able to stay comfortable in the house. But the real key to surviving this heat without making the toddler in the house go mad has been our awesome backyard.
In the morning, the nice big deck is shaded by the house. In the afternoon, the rest of the backyard is in the shade. And since we bought a blowup pool big enough for us all to get in, we've been putting it to good use. Hanging out in that thing, keeping cool in the shade, has made it so much more bearable.
I swear our backyard is 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the area. =) I love it! And if you dip in the pool first and then run around, you stay cooler even longer. Sam's friend Maddie was over and we were outside in this heat for about an hour and a half yesterday morning and we didn't even realize it! We only came in because it was lunch time.
My backyard beats the heat!
