Brian and I have decided to start a "victory garden" in our backyard next spring. I've been looking for local produce co-ops for years, but this area just doesn't have them. And now with our budget tighter than ever and food prices only going up, it makes since to make our own produce.
So, we've started with a compost pile in the backyard. I collect scraps in an old coffee tin on the counter top, and every weekend we tend to it. I'm going to have our soil tested soon and we'll start planning our "crop" in the next few months.

I was worried my coffee tin would smell, but it doesn't at all. And actually it fills up fast sometimes, so I may have to move onto a
bigger one.
So, I've talked to several people who are thinking about doing this. I would love to start an informal competition. I dare everyone out there to try this! It's better for our environment, our budget, and our health! It's a win-win. Especially since it doesn't

smell. =)

Good Idea!! Did that as a 4H project and necessity in WW2. Learned how to can it also. Did'nt need compost, had NC red mud,not sand, to farm.
Best of luck.
Hey, if you put bacon on that toast it's REALLY good!!
Mom
We're starting an organic garden too. Gonna get a composter though,and a bigger size ceramic container to collect scraps indoors. Whatcha gonna grow? We could co-op!
We haven't decided what we're going to plant yet, but that's a great idea! Let's plan together. =)
