Last time Brian and I bought a house, things couldn't have gone better. Three years later, however, we couldn't sell the house in three months and turned it into a rental. Now we're moving back (you have to love the Army's sick sense of humor) and we had to buy a new place to live. And we're chewing our nails to the quick wondering if we can afford to do what we're doing.
I know buying property is a good investment, but tell that to all these people who can't sell their homes. It's much more like a good way to drain the life out of you. And since the cost of housing is going up where we're moving to, but our basic housing allowance is smaller, we are for the first time living outside our means. Not to mention we have to buy our babies, so we get to figure out how to pay for the next one so we can complete our family.
We've always been quite proud of being able to pay our bills and not sweat our debt. How, in our 30s, did we get into this situation?! Were we actually smarter in our 20s, or just more cautious?
One nice thing about being in the Army (and being at war) is that we have job security and a garaunteed paycheck. The catch 22 is that we also can't get any MORE money, by asking for a promotion or finding a better paying job. And me trying to go back to work in the newspaper industry - ha! No one's hiring.
OK, so there was no real point to this post but to put my fears out for everyone to see. Is this what blogging is for? Free therapy? Stripping away all privacy? Yikes. I can promise things will get better. You'll see when I start delving into politics. There will be many exclamation points. =)

Housing is always a good investment. Hang on by those chewed fingernails and it will get better! Love you! Mom
Ha Ha! You're medium is dying!
But seriously...have you looked into the booming world of new media. You may not be able to find work on a newspaper...but a news site? There's a lot of people making money off their blogs/working with other bloggers.
Get more into this whole internet thing...it's where your industry is going.
